Canor Virtus A3: Test verdict from online magazine hifistatement.net: “A masterpiece”

The online magazine hifistatement.net is reviewing the Canor Virtus A3 hybrid integrated amplifier in November 2025. It features a built-in digital-to-analog converter and a discretely designed phono preamp for MM and MC cartridges. The conclusion of this highly recommended and detailed review:
“With the Virtus A3, Canor has created a masterpiece”:

“The ECM double album Jimmy Giuffre 3 1961 (Qobuz stream 44.1/16) quickly revealed how wonderfully nuanced this combination is. […] The trio performs with great finesse and beautiful tones. Such a presentation turns this music, which demands close listening, into a true pleasure and never feels tiring. […] Similarly, the Holly Cole Trio sounds cleanly structured on the live album Montreal. Holly Cole’s vocals come across as impressively articulated, full-bodied with a slightly dark timbre – just like in top-tier playback systems. […] What stands out with these four performers is a gripping micro-dynamics that makes the drive in the music physically palpable.

[…]

The DAC in the Virtus delivers Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with Daniel Barenboim and the Munich Philharmonic slightly more densely. However, the difference is negligible when considering the beauty and transparency with which the amplifier section of the Canor reproduces music, regardless of whether it comes from an external or its own DAC. The Virtus A3 has the ability to convey the beauty and grandeur of music, no matter the genre. It doesn’t create an overly large soundstage, always remains believable, and emotionally resonates with the listener – likely thanks to its excellent timing. I’m thrilled by the Virtus A3 and impressed by its musicality.”

Let there be no misunderstanding: the Virtus is not a beautifier or a soft-focus artist. It simply has the ability to draw out the beauty in any type of music, making listening a pleasure – even for many hours at a time.

Now I turn to the integrated, discreetly built phono preamplifier, replacing the Plinius Koru in my large setup with the Virtus A3. […] Unlike my Plinius, which needs to be powered for days before showing its capabilities, the Canor performs at full strength after a very short time, once again enchanting with its fine dynamic resolution and that characteristic delicate, silky smoothness. Brilliance and energy combine here as well into a harmonious sound with excellent clarity and dynamics. The brass shines with energy, and every note from the orchestra and soloists feels well-defined and vivid.

[…]

The phono stage fits perfectly into the overall concept of the Virtus A3, delivering both analog and digital performance on an equal level. It seems to me that the preamp section of the A3 plays a decisive role in creating this captivating and pleasant musicality.

Conclusion
With the Virtus A3, Canor has achieved a masterpiece. Everything fits together superbly and performs at an exceptionally high level for this price range. The perfectly balanced tuning makes separate components simply unnecessary.
