Specialist magazine Stereo reviews the highly affordable Q Acoustics 3040c floorstanding loudspeaker in its 11/2026 issue, available from early October, and concludes: “Achieving this level of performance for even less money than with this loudspeaker will be difficult.”
“What happens shortly after switching on makes even seasoned reviewers with a wealth of listening experience sit up in awe. And all this without using exotic or costly electronics. Thanks to its relatively high sensitivity of 89 decibels and entirely benign impedance curve, the 3040c also places only modest demands on the upstream electronics.
So the first listening session began with Jeff Beck, who died in 2023 and was perhaps the most daring and versatile of the world’s finest guitarists, supported by Beth Hart on vocals and Jan Hammer on keyboards. During a concert at the Hollywood Bowl, they performed ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’. This classic receives an intense interpretation here, as powerful as it is soulful. The slim floorstander conveys this energy and the accompanying emotions so skilfully, without booming bass or biting treble, that you remain glued to your armchair, captivated by the performance.
We had much the same experience when we listened to Maceo Parker’s live recording ‘Life On Planet Groove’. Although the buzzing venue was portrayed on a comparatively compact scale, the rhythm and atmosphere clearly exceeded our expectations.”
The cleanliness with which this slender little loudspeaker reproduced detail, and the ease with which it did so, were as immensely pleasing as they were unexpected. Colouration, too, was negligible here, a point we mention only in passing.
Serious limitations only became apparent with large-scale classical works, even with an Eversolo DMP-A10 as the source and the Canor Virtus A3 integrated amplifier providing the drive.
Cassandra Wilson, whose death we learn of as this text is being written, provides a highly demanding test of neutrality with her distinctive voice on ‘You Don’t Know What Love Is’ and the accompanying acoustic guitar, recorded with plenty of reverberation. Yet here too, this English loudspeaker surprises us, making us forget its price tag in the most impressive fashion. Achieving this level of performance for even less money than with this loudspeaker will be difficult.
Test verdict
Measurements: good (1.8)
Features & ease of use: good (1.7)
Sound character: exceptionally neutral and lively, and not just for the price
Sound score: 48/100”
