In its July/August 2026 issue, Dutch hi-fi magazine HVT publishes a review of the Canor Virtus I4S + Verto D4S integrated amplifier/DAC combination – concluding with the verdict “High End at realistic prices”:
“It was immediately clear that this was an amplifier with my speakers completely under control. The reproduction had tremendous drive and reached deep down into the bass, yet remained controlled at all times and never lost its composure. The kick drum had exactly the right punch. It practically begged to be played a little louder – and that was no problem at all. Great fun to listen to.
Among the classics that always work for me are ‘Aja’ by Steely Dan and ‘Love Over Gold’ by Dire Straits – and their reproduction was captivating and rhythmically extremely precise. The famous ‘foot-tapping’ effect kicked in straight away. Everything I played through the I4S’s phono input increasingly convinced me that my Moonstone cartridge deserves a better phono stage than the admittedly quite capable input on my Lyngdorf. CANOR’s phono preamplifier is truly excellent.
I then listened to several more albums through the headphone output using my HiFiMAN HE400i. After all, headphones are an even more precise tool for revealing the qualities of a turntable/cartridge combination. Here too, I was by no means disappointed. Naturally, I also listened to streamed music through headphones – and, as expected, that worked superbly as well.
In Roon, I use a custom EQ curve for my HiFiMAN that slightly boosts the bass range. Even under these conditions, the I4S’s headphone output proved fully equal to the rest of the amplifier in terms of quality. Very convincing.
Conclusion
In my humble opinion, the Foundation Line, as CANOR’s most attractively priced range, represents an exceptionally compelling offer. You get a generous dose of High-End appeal and a genuine High-End experience – but at a price that can still be considered within reach.
The design is stylish and pleasantly understated. The quality of the materials and workmanship is at a very high level. The same applies to the technical implementation and the engineering solutions developed by CANOR. The result is a comparatively compact system that nevertheless delivers an exceptionally refined, expansive performance while offering virtually every conceivable connectivity option.
Several times during the review, I found myself wondering whether the speakers and other components I was using were actually capable of fully revealing the true potential of this combination.
I think the title that came to me fairly early on for this article perfectly sums up the essence of my experience:
“A taste of High End at realistic prices.”
