Epos ES-28N: reference class at Audio Test

The specialist magazine Audio Test published a review of the Epos ES-28N floorstanding speakers in its 3/2026 issue, awarding top marks for their “finest sonic artistry” and placing them directly in the reference class with an overall score of 95.5%:

“We listen to the Epos ES-28N with various amplifiers, including the Audionet Watt, the Roksan Caspian 4G, and the Advance Paris A12 Apex.
In general, the ES-28N should be driven by more powerful amplifiers to fully realize their potential. After all, hardly anyone would run a pair of €8,000 speakers with a €300 amp.

The song Kiss by Prince immediately shows what the ES-28N can do: truly outstanding bass. The track is mixed very directly—it practically jumps into the listener’s face. The drums feel as if they are positioned just 10 centimeters behind Prince. The bass drum hits hard and precisely. On the left speaker, the cymbals seem to have a life of their own while remaining perfectly locatable, as if placed right in the room. Prince’s voice is presented with great body and tangible presence. Wonderful.

We switch to Die Tänzerin by Ulla Meinicke. Here we hear beautiful reverberation tails, and the speakers demonstrate how well they handle width and large spaces. Once again, the voice is reproduced perfectly—full-bodied and simply real. […]

With Stravinsky’s The Firebird, we enjoy the ominous opening of the first movement and the lifelike nature of the concert reproduction. Finally, we listen to the bass-demanding The Sound Of Silence by Geoff Castellucci. The woofers must not show any weakness—and they don’t. What we experience is a firework of bass. Hardly any floorstanding speaker in recent years has shown as much joy and capability in this area as the Epos ES-28N. And now we understand Karl-Heinz Fink’s remark during our phone call: “Epos speakers are Fink. I do what I enjoy.” We’re very glad about that, because it’s clear that joy and passion for music have led to this exceptionally outstanding Epos speaker.”
