For decades, the team around loudspeaker luminary Karl-Heinz Fink has been one of Europe’s leading developers of loudspeaker cabinets in all price categories. Having provided their expertise, experience and superbly equipped simulation and measurement facilities to numerous manufacturers, the Fink team unveiled the prototype of their own reference loudspeaker at High End 2017.
The resulting small-series model is called WM-4 and is the best loudspeaker the FinkTeam currently knows how to produce. One year later, “BORG” followed, a smaller loudspeaker in terms of construction and price – and the beginning of the cooperation with IDC Klaassen for the distribution of FinkTeam models in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, France and Switzerland. And with the third model, KIM, the FinkTeam recently launched the company’s first in-house compact loudspeaker.

Couldn’t it be better?
Well, FinkTeam have done it.
FinkTeam’s Borg is a two-way floorstanding loudspeaker with a high performance 10.25″ cone bass/midrange driver and an Air Motion Transformer (AMT) tweeter.
The Borg represents a significant design challenge as it is not easy to combine a 10.25″ woofer, albeit an extremely fine one, with a tweeter. Combining the two drivers to achieve a flat frequency response and, more importantly, a slow, smooth fall-off in the midrange/tweeter powerband is a significant engineering achievement. There is no off-axis hole in the midrange response.
Designed to be a more affordable speaker than the WM-4, the Borg’s low frequency tuning is designed to add weight and drama to music without being a total diva when it comes to room placement.
It’s not as good overall as the WM-4, of course, but it doesn’t need a big room or the best amplifiers and sources either. Believe us when we say that the Borg is up to the challenge of the best electronics, but they are not necessary to enjoy the Borg’s talents.
