Canor Virtus A3: excellent test result in Portugal

The Portuguese hi-fi magazine “Audio & Cinema em Casa” tested the integrated amplifier Canor Virtus A3 at the end of January 2026 and concluded: “For those looking for tube/Class A sound with more than enough power for normal situations, the Canor Virtus A3 is a must-have”:

“With all-in-one devices, it is relatively common to see manufacturers opting for solid but unremarkable solutions. That is explicitly not the case here: nearly all components of this amplifier that I was able to test perform at an exemplary level. I was not able to test the phono input; however, given the consistently high quality of the other sections, it is fair to assume it matches them – especially since it is a fully discrete circuit.

Even though the Canor Virtus A3 is certainly not a cheap device, it is hard to imagine achieving comparable sound quality with a similar budget and a combination of separate components.

One can – and should – ask whether the Virtus A3, lacking an integrated streaming function, isn’t positioned in a sort of no man’s land: it is neither a purely analog amplifier nor a true all-in-one device. Ultimately, however, this consideration remains academic.”

The A3 delivers sonically across the board on both digital and analog inputs, and today there is no shortage of high-quality yet affordable digital network players. In case of doubt, it is even preferable to forgo integrated streaming entirely rather than implement a half-hearted or sonically questionable solution – as developing and maintaining reliable software is neither simple nor inexpensive.

When you add a good network player, as I did with the Eversolo A6 Master Edition Gen 2, and a pair of musical speakers, the Virtus A3 takes care of everything else. It may not be the right choice for those seeking absolute neutrality or needing more power for large rooms and/or demanding impedance/sensitivity combinations, but for those who find Class D amplifiers too cold and are looking for a touch of tube/Class A sound with more than enough power for normal situations, the Canor Virtus A3 is a must-have.”
