Canor Virtus I4S + Verto D4S: top marks and “Highlight” award from i-fidelity.net

In April 2026, the online magazine i-fidelity.net reviews the new components of the Canor Foundation Line. “Right from the moment of unboxing, the high tactile quality of the units stands out. Everything feels well made, nothing rattles, nothing appears carelessly assembled or in any way makeshift. The components immediately give the impression that real care has gone into their construction. […] After the first few hours with the two units, it becomes clear fairly quickly that, with the Foundation series, Canor is taking a somewhat different route from many manufacturers in this price range. Rather than packing as many functions as possible into as many menus as possible or trying to impress with technical buzzwords, the Virtus i4S and Verto D4S focus first and foremost on what is actually noticeable in everyday use: build quality, ease of operation and a certain naturalness in use.

In the listening test, the Virtus i4S and the Verto D4S were, of course, initially auditioned together. In the case of the Foundation series, the synergy between them feels remarkably coherent. In a way, the sonic character even reflects the outward impression of the two units. Just as they present themselves visually, so they do sonically: restrained, controlled and exceptionally relaxed.

The overall character is best described as slightly warm and very composed. Nothing pushes itself into the foreground, nothing tries to impress the listener with spectacular effects. Instead, there is an agreeably calm flow that remains particularly enjoyable over extended listening sessions. One can listen to music for hours without any sense of fatigue setting in. The level of resolution appears to be very deliberately judged. Fine details are certainly present, but they are not thrust forward under a magnifying glass. The focus is more on a coherent overall musical picture than on extracting the maximum possible analytical detail.

Much the same applies to dynamics. The presentation feels more controlled than explosive. Fast level changes are tracked cleanly, yet always remain within a certain framework. The system clearly favours a cultivated approach rather than a demonstrative display of force. The bass region fits seamlessly into this overall picture. It comes across as full and supple rather than bone-dry and ultra-contoured. At the same time, it remains well controlled and does not tend to become unpleasantly thickened. Particularly during longer listening sessions, this slightly rounded balance contributes greatly to the system’s relaxed character.

Spatial presentation is at a solid level. The soundstage opens up sufficiently wide between the loudspeakers and offers a clearly understandable layering of instruments. At this price point, that is entirely convincing.

In the end, the impression is of a very thoughtfully matched pairing. The Virtus i4S and Verto D4S do not pursue a spectacular sonic signature. Instead, they focus on balance, composure and a certain sonic ease. Those seeking extreme dynamics, maximum analytical insight or uncompromising power reserves will probably find what they are after in other categories of equipment.”
