Epos ES-7N: “sophisticated compact loudspeakers with a complete sonic universe”

The specialist magazine STEREO tested the compact Epos ES-7N bookshelf speaker in its 4/2026 issue and awarded an impressive 76 out of 100 sound points:

“What the frequency measurement had suggested was confirmed in practice: this compact loudspeaker was not engineered to squeeze as much bass as possible out of a limited enclosure volume. Small speakers designed this way may initially impress with their abundant low-end, but often sound sluggish and restrained. The Epos, on the other hand, impresses with its relaxed, free-flowing presentation that still does not lack substance. […]

The credo of the ES-7N is transparent naturalness. The performance appears balanced and in no way ‘constructed’, but rather has that sense of effortlessness that suggests it could hardly sound any other way. In addition, the music detaches easily from the speakers, creating an open, colorful, and three-dimensionally layered soundstage.

This already works at low listening levels, as the Epos ‘comes alive’ early, while also handling higher volumes with ease and without compromise. […] It goes without saying that the Epos is not intended as a ‘party speaker’ for high-volume use.

The ES-7N, whose smooth unobtrusiveness—one of its greatest strengths—perhaps encourages closer listening precisely because of it, instead embodies a straightforward and honest audiophile concept.”

The refined treble is complemented by finely layered, richly nuanced mids as well as an agile, pulsating, and dry bass. Its supporting bass reflex port appears to be effectively tuned, as even small impulses on the outside create a noticeable airflow.

This gives guitars, for example, body and a distinct grip. The required speed without nervousness is one of the key characteristics of the lightweight, powerfully driven woofer diaphragm, which operates up to around 2,500 hertz, where the drivers blend smoothly into one another. Fink explains that particular attention was paid to coherent timing behavior—another crucial aspect in the development not only of small loudspeakers.

Together with other qualities, this also leads to the hi-fi show effect that sophisticated compact loudspeakers like the Epos ES-7N can unfold a complete sonic universe in a small format.
