In December 2023, the online magazine i-fidelity.net reviewed the IsoTek V5 Sigmas mains filter and concluded: “The Sigmas V5 increases my enjoyment of listening to music many times over”:
“As I know my system and my room inside out and know exactly how they sound and how they should sound, I simply connected all my components to the IsoTek Sigmas V5 and listened to music over a period of several weeks, sometimes more intensively and sometimes less so. What did I notice? My system did not sound reborn, nor did it sound like a setup costing twice or three times as much. The changes were subtle and, quite literally, had to be ‘heard out’. However, as constantly reconnecting the equipment is not practical with a product of this kind, the true quality of the Sigmas V5 only becomes apparent once the mains filter has been removed from the system.
To begin my listening tests, I played ‘The Girl From Ipanema’ by Getz/Gilberto. […] With the Sigmas V5, Astrud Gilberto’s voice is positioned a little farther behind the loudspeaker and appears slightly clearer, more open and more charged with tension. During the weeks in which I was able to enjoy music through the system connected to the Sigmas V5, the song’s emotional impact also seemed more substantial.

With the IsoTek mains filter, the bass appears to extend deeper, the three instruments are more clearly separated within the room, and the music’s drive becomes utterly captivating. There is absolutely no sign of the loss of dynamics that passive filter solutions are so often accused of causing. Keith Martin’s team has this issue completely under control; nothing appears blurred or restrained. The music goes straight to the body and the feet, just as it should.

After weeks of intensive listening, the day of reckoning arrives: the IsoTek Sigmas V5 has to leave my system, and I reconnect the equipment to my unfiltered, high-quality mains distribution block, which has achieved a certain degree of fame as the ‘biscuit tin’. But I was definitely not prepared for what happened next: the spatial presentation suddenly became less distinct, the bass was no longer as deep or precise, and the resolution genuinely left something to be desired.
This became most apparent with ‘Private Investigations’ from Dire Straits’ LP ‘Love Over Gold’: without the V5 Sigmas, the glass that shatters against the wall at the end of the track suddenly sounded as though it had been wrapped in cotton wool. The breaking glass was still clearly audible, but the reverberation could no longer be made out. What pained me most, however, was that the emotional connection to the music was no longer at the same level as it had been with the V5 Sigmas.
This brings us to the question of whether the considerable investment in an IsoTek Sigmas V5 is worthwhile. I have to state quite clearly that every single euro is extremely well spent. Powered by the IsoTek V5 Sigmas, my system succeeds in bringing me even closer to the musical core and the emotional essence of the music. The Sigmas V5 increases my enjoyment of listening to music many times over.
Test result
The latest incarnation of the IsoTek Sigmas mains power conditioner is impeccably constructed and, with seven connection options, already very well equipped. Using the V5 Sigmas elevates any good system to a musical level that can hardly be achieved by replacing individual components. The purchase price is put into perspective by the immense increase in listening pleasure it provides. This makes the IsoTek V5 Sigmas the most important component in a hi-fi system intended to deliver above-average sound quality.
