Canor Virtus I4S & Verto D4S: “Recommended for enjoyable and relaxed music listening”

In June 2026, the online magazine hifistatement.net reviews the integrated amplifier-DAC combination from Canor’s new Foundation Line and recommends the Virtus I4S and Verto D4S “for enjoyable and relaxed music listening”:

“What was already so significantly audible during the first brief listen was now also to be confirmed in the extensive listening test […]: once again, I was impressed by the beautifully spread-out, detailed and homogeneous presentation of the album Sotho Blue by Abdullah Ibrahim and Enkaya. It made no difference whether I listened very loudly or quietly. The wonderfully stress-free sound remained. That is quite remarkable, deserving of special praise, and by no means a given even in much higher price ranges.

Let us now try orchestral music, namely Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade with Ernest Ansermet and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande on Decca. As before, I experience a large stage with depth, yet one that is not exaggerated or even diffusely spherical. The orchestra opens powerfully until, after a few bars, the fine, more delicate instrumentation and the solo violin take over. The two Foundation Line components turn this into a supreme musical pleasure and, thanks to the coherent overall picture, leave nothing to be desired in terms of transparency and power delivery […]. I am happy to attest to the Foundation Line duo an extraordinary musicality that is not so easily found elsewhere in this class.

With Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos featuring Sir John Eliot Gardiner and the English Baroque Soloists, the Virtus I4S and my Analysis Audio full-range ribbon speakers played together as if they had been made for one another: voluminous, structured, energetic and involving. The Virtus also masters the songs from Malia’s album One Grass Skirt to London (Qobuz 48/24): the piano is well contoured and full-bodied, the voice gripping and realistic.”

Here, too, the Virtus I4S displays its specific character: above all, it plays without tiring the listener, in other words calmly and serenely. This serenity is often a blessing, although at times I would still wish for a little more dynamic energy delivery. But with Canor, that means moving up to a higher tier.

These listening experiences show what pleasing potential lies above all in the Canor Virtus I4S integrated amplifier, which, within the Foundation Line duo, I rate slightly above its digital partner in terms of its capabilities. […] [The sonic impression of the phono stage in the I4S can also be described] as I experienced it with the loudspeakers: the Virtus I4S simply sounds beautiful and emotionally engaging. […] What the Virtus delivers here with Autumn and Winter from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, performed by the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields with Iona Brown, is a delight. It conveys the qualities of the finely resolving cartridge holistically, without portraying its outstanding wealth of detail in an overly analytical way. Always warm and smooth, it once again offers fine detail rendering. […]

Statement
With the Foundation Line Verto D4S and Virtus I4S, Canor proves that beautiful sound is possible even without tubes. The amplifier impresses with its versatile features and pleasant, nuanced musicality, and is likely to appeal to vinyl lovers as well. Whether considered individually or as a duo, both Foundation Line components are recommended for anyone who, when listening to music, primarily seeks enjoyment and relaxation.”
